How Do I Choose the Music for a Rule Set?

Use Music Settings in a rule set to choose the library, genres, moods and more for music added when a Creator has no music of its own.

You choose the music for a rule set in Music Settings, in your Agency account. Music Settings decide what music Storykit adds when it creates videos automatically, including Feeds videos, and the Creator doesn't supply its own music.

Availability: Accounts with the Premium Music Library (Storyblocks), included in the Pro and Enterprise plans. See the feature list. Who can edit rule sets depends on the role. See Who Can Edit Rule Sets?

Set Up Music Settings in a Rule Set

  1. In your Agency account, click Rule Sets in the sidebar.

  2. Click New Rule Set, or click the cogwheel on an existing rule set.

  3. Click Music Settings in the left column.

  4. Select Use Music in My Videos.

  5. Choose the settings you want. They are all optional. See the settings below.

  6. Click Save.

  7. Apply the rule set to a video theme. See How Do I Apply a Rule Set to a Video Theme?

Videos created automatically with that video theme, including Feeds videos, now get music that matches your Music Settings.

Music Settings You Can Choose

Music Settings in a rule set has these options. Select an option to turn it on. Search terms, genres, moods, duration, tempo and no vocals all search the Premium Music Library (Storyblocks).

  • Use Music in My Videos: Turns on music for the rule set. All other settings are optional.

  • Use Music From Library: Pick one of your music libraries. Only libraries that contain music tracks are listed. A library overrides the other settings. See How Do I Add Music to an Asset Library?

  • Search Terms for Music Inclusion: Free-text search terms, for example "corporate, calm, inspiring". Search terms give the least predictable result. Genres and moods are more precise.

  • Use Genres for Music Inclusion: One or more genres, for example Ambient, Chill Out and Electronic. Only music from the selected genres is used.

  • Use Moods for Music Inclusion: One or more moods, for example Serious and Epic. Combine moods with genres to narrow the selection.

  • Use Duration for Music Inclusion: The minimum and maximum track length, from 0:01 to 6:00+. Music is always fitted to the length of the video, so you rarely need this setting.

  • Use Tempo for Music Inclusion: A tempo range from 0 to 200+ bpm (beats per minute). For faster music, start at 120 bpm.

  • Only Use Music With No Vocals: Leaves out tracks with singing, spoken word and rap. This applies to tracks found with the other settings, not to tracks from a library.

How Storykit Picks a Track With Music Settings

When Storykit creates a video automatically, it picks the music in this order:

  1. If the Creator supplies its own music, the Creator's music is used.

  2. If a library is selected in Use Music From Library and it has a track long enough for the video, a track from the library is used.

  3. If other Music Settings are chosen, a track from the Premium Music Library that matches those settings is used.

  4. If none of these apply, any track long enough for the video is used.

Good to Know

  • Music Settings in a rule set apply to automatic video creation and to Feeds, and only when the Creator doesn't supply its own music. Custom Creators can have their own music.

  • When you create a script, Music Settings only apply if Include Music is on in the New Script dialog. If you turn Include Music off, no music is added, even if the rule set has Music Settings. See How Do I Include Stock Assets and Music Automatically?

  • If the library's tracks are too short for the video, Storykit falls back to the other Music Settings, so you can combine a library with genres and moods.

  • Search terms and filters only search the Premium Music Library (Storyblocks), not the standard music library. See What Is the Premium Music Library?
